Job Description
The Children's Museum of the Brazos Valley is a not-for-profit interactive play and learning space, offering a wide range of educational exhibits and activities for children of all ages.  The Children’s Museum of the Brazos Valley is located in Bryan, Texas and serves both Bryan and College Station and the greater Brazos Valley, www. http://cmbv.org/
The Executive Director of the Children’s Museum of the Brazos Valley, working closely with the Board of Directors, understands, supports, and promotes the mission of the organization. The ED is responsible for implementing the plans and policies authorized by the board, developing organizational and financial plans, and programs. This individual oversees and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization.  The Executive Director is expected to attend Board meetings, fundraising and public relations activities. Required skills include grant writing, exceptional customer service, problem solving, organizational management, strategic planning, budget/fiscal familiarity, marketing and communications.

Required Qualifications
  1. 5 years relevant experience
  2. Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Advanced degree in Public Administration, Education, Business or other relevant field.
  2. At least 7 years of nonprofit management experience.
Skills and Attributes
  1. Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills.
  2. Careful attention to detail and good time management skills.
  3. Ability to lead, motivate and effectively manage staff and volunteers.
  4. Ability to write competitive grant applications and oversee fundraising and development activities.
  5. Ability to oversee day-to-day operations of Museum and staff.
Objectives
  1. Operate in accordance with the mission, goals, and vision of CMBV.
  2. Create and lead a professional organization in accordance with the strategic plan.
  3. Enhance programming to deliver services to meet community needs.
  4. Create and implement a strategic action plan with measurable outcome goals.
  5. Provide the Board with regular updates on progress.
  6. Monitor and evaluate progress outcomes.
  7. Monitor changes in programming to increase overall performance.
  8. Operate in a financially prudent manner with “audit worthy” internal controls and procedures
  9. Establish and maintain a strong and positive community presence.
  10. Establish and maintain a reliable donor base and quality communications.
  11.  
  1. Shall not operate in a manner that is illegal, immoral, or unprofessional.
  2. Shall not obligate the Museum for a bank loan or mortgage of over $5,000.00 per occasion.
  3. Shall not operate in a manner such that annual expenditures exceed income without Board approval.
  4. Shall not act in a way that threatens the ongoing operations of the Museum.
  5. Shall not put the Museum at risk of being without leadership.
 
This job description is intended to highlight key expectations and functions of the Executive Director. Due to the level of management, it is understood that the Executive Director will work outside this job description as needed by the organization.  The schedule is Monday to Friday, but some nights and weekends are required.
