StataCorp is seeking a seasoned Senior Linux Systems Administrator to join the team in support of our in-house information systems. This is an end-to-end infrastructure role requiring a blend of physical hardware mastery, expert-level Linux administration, and some network engineering.
If you thrive on solving complex architectural puzzles, possess strong troubleshooting skills, and love to learn, we want to talk to you.
Key responsibilities

- RHEL life cycle management: Configure Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) to exacting specifications. Manage complex migrations and version updates from legacy OS releases.
- Performance engineering: Tune and optimize a myriad of software systems. Fine-tune Apache, MySQL, Sendmail, MIMEDefang, SpamAssassin, and other software packages for performance and security.
- High availability and resilience: Design and maintain high-availability servers, robust backup/restore workflows, and comprehensive disaster recovery plans.
- Network operations: Manage Layer 2 and Layer 3 environments, including enterprise firewall administration and switch configuration (VLANs, LAGs, and routing protocols).
- Virtualization: Administer and leverage virtualization layers, focusing on KVM and Hyper-V.
Required qualifications and skills
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years in a Linux Systems Administration role with a proven track record in enterprise environments.
- Linux expertise: Strong knowledge of RHEL or equivalent distributions.
- Scripting and automation: Proficiency in Bash, Perl, Python, or PHP for system automation. Experience with Ansible, Kickstart, or Red Hat Satellite is a strong advantage.
- Troubleshooting: Critical diagnostic skills; the ability to identify bottlenecks across hardware, OS, application, and network layers.
- Hardware savvy: Comfortable in a data center environment, handling physical servers and hardware maintenance.
